COMMUNICATIONS ALLIANCE PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE LATE DR CHRISTOPHER NEWELL 25/6/2008 Communications Alliance today lamented the passing of Dr Christopher Newell, the long-serving chairman of its Disability Council. As chairman of the Communications Alliance Disability Council for the past ten years, Dr Newell was a tireless advocate of 'universal design', championing the need to ensure Australian communications products and services meet the needs of people with disabilities. NEW ‘ONE-STOP’ TELECOMMUNICATIONS CONSUMER PROTECTIONS CODE TO GREATLY ASSIST TELECOMMUNICATIONS CONSUMERS 19/5/2008 The Australian Communications and Media Authority has registered a new Telecommunications Consumer Protections Industry Code, developed by Communications Alliance, that consolidates consumer protections contained in six existing codes. COMMENT SOUGHT ON REVISED DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE CABLING STANDARD 13/5/2008 The telecommunications customer cabling requirements for the Department of Defence are specified in ACA TS 035-1997 Requirements for Installation of Temporary Telecommunications Customer Cabling for Defence Purposes. With input from the DoD and ACMA, Communications Alliance has carried out a review of the requirements of ACA TS 035-1997 and is now seeking comments on a new draft Defence Cabling Standard proposed to replace the ACA Standard.
NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR AUSTRALIAN PRIVACY AWARDS 8/5/2008 Communications Alliance members are invited to nominate for the 2008 Australian Privacy Awards, which recognise and reward good privacy practices across the private and public sectors. An initiative of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, the Awards will be presented in four categories - Large Business Award, Microsoft Small-Medium Business Award, Community and NGO Award, and the Symantec Government Award - with an overall Grand Award presented to the most outstanding entrant.

AUSTRALIA’S COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY PROPOSES BLUEPRINT FOR BROADBAND POLICY DEVELOPMENT 26/2/2008 Australia’s communications industry has agreed on a series of “fundamental principles” that should be the basis for development of policy governing the broadband environment. The Board of Communications Alliance, the industry’s peak representative body, has signed off on the principles and will advocate that the Federal Government adopt them as the framework for its broadband policy development.
