Proposed amendments to the Telecommunications Service Provider (Customer Identity Authentication) Determination 2022

Communications Alliance has written to the ACMA to propose updates to the Telecommunications Service Provider (Customer Identity Authentication) Determination 2022 (the Determination) to address a number of issues preventing the Determination from fully meeting its scam reduction objectives. In addition to correcting drafting errors, the proposed amendments would allow a more agile and effective response to emerging concerns, address some concerns about the collection and storage of personal information, and reduce barriers to vulnerable consumers.

Updated Guideline on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Information For Emergency Calls From Mobiles

Communications Alliance has published the revised G669:2024 Transport of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Information Associated With Mobile Originated Emergency Calls Industry Guideline.

The Guideline is designed to enable the transfer of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) data, associated with Emergency Calls, from mobile devices and mobile networks to the Emergency Call Person e.g. IMEI, IMSI, CLI, location information and device type.

The recent update added SIP recommendations for P Asserted Identity and clarified content about location information from mobile phones.

The revised Guideline is available from here.

  •
  • sets minimum acceptable practices (including timeframes to Port and to ensure end-to-end connectivity and call completion) which do not unnecessarily limit industry’s ability to improve on the minimum level.

Fireside discussion: Hamish Hansford & Brendan Dowling join Rachael Falk

In our interconnected world, cyber security plays a vital role in keeping citizens, businesses, critical infrastructure and governments protected. Over the past several years Australia, like other nations, has had first-hand experience of the impacts of cyberattacks, driving the push for economy-wide cyber uplift.

Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2023-30, released in November 2023, reflects the culmination of broad consultation, expert engagement and an understanding that cyber security is central to the prosperity and safety of our citizens, institutions and infrastructure.

auDA CEO Rosemary Sinclair AM, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre (CSCRC) is pleased to host a virtual fireside discussion with:

  • Rachael Falk, CEO of the CSCRC and member of the Minster for Home Affairs’ Cyber Strategy Expert Advisory Board
  • Hamish Hansford, Deputy Secretary of Cyber and Infrastructure Security Group and Acting National Cyber Coordinator, Department of Home Affairs
  • Brendan Dowling, Australia’s Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology.
  •

Rachael, Hamish and Brendan each played a key role in the creation of the Cyber Security Strategy and will support its implementation.
