Comment Sought on Revised C540:2022 Local Number Portability Industry Code

Communications Alliance is seeking public comment on a revised Local Number Portability Industry Code.

The Local Number Portability Code sets out operational procedures for the efficient and effective processes involved with the porting scenarios associated with Local Numbers. The Code also deals with the minimum requirements by which a Gaining CSP must abide by for Customer Authentication.

The revised C540:2022 Local Number Portability Industry Code seeks to:

  • introduce changes to processes to assist in reducing and simplifying the porting times associated with Cat A and Cat C Ports;
  • amend the Quarantine of Disconnected Numbers and Giveback process to improve Customer experience and align with the C566:2022 Number Management – Use of Numbers By Customers Industry Code;
  • clarify the response codes used in relation to certain system transactions; and
  • update the use of Local Time to Standard Time across all time value transactions.

Accompanying the LNP Code, the G602.1:2022 Local Number Portability: IT Specifications and Operations Manual Part 1- General, Give Back and Ported Local Number Register Processing has also been revised to ensure consistency with the LNP Code.

Information on the working committee which participated in the Code development, including the Terms of Reference, can be found here.

Further information can be found on the Public Comments webpage. All submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday 16th June 2022.

Submissions received will be made publicly available on the Communications Alliance website unless the submitter requests otherwise.

Comment Sought on C566:2022 Number Management – Use of Numbers by Customers Industry Code

Communications Alliance is seeking public comment on the C566:2022 Number Management – Use of Numbers By Customers Industry Code. This draft of the C566:2022 Number Management – Use of Numbers By Customers Industry Code replaces two former Industry Codes, these are:

C566:2005 Rights of Use of Numbers Industry Code and C554:2004 Rights of Use of Premium Rate Service Numbers Industry Code.

The C566:2022 Number Management – Use of Numbers By Customers Industry Code relates to the CSP and Customer activities that arise from a CSP Holding Numbers and the CSP Issuing Numbers to Customers for their use.

The Code also seeks to:

  • define the arrangements between CSPs and their Customers when a Number is Issued to a Customer;
  • clarify the CSP obligations in providing Rights Of Use when a Number is Issued; and
  • enable Rights of Use Holders to understand how they can use a Number Issued to them and what is and is not permitted.
