Australian Consumer Law Seminar

Communications Alliance invites its members to a lunchtime seminar on Tuesday 11 May 2010, co-hosted by Baker & McKenzie, about the specific implications of the new Australian Consumer Law for the telecommunications and content sectors.

James Halliday, Partner, Baker & McKenzie will provide an overview of the new Australian Consumer Law as it relates to the telecommunications and content sectors followed by Sarah Court, ACCC Commissioner, who will outline the ACCC's approach to the enforcement of the new laws.

There will be a panel discussion with Page Henty, Corporate Counsel, AUSTAR Entertainment Pty Ltd, John Horan, General Counsel, Primus Telecommunications and Bill Gallagher, General Counsel - Public Policy & Communications, Telstra Corporation Ltd.

The panel will discuss the industry’s views on the impact of the new law, the changes it will bring about, and the specific actions that need to be taken by participants in the telecommunications and content sectors both before and following the introduction of the Australian Consumer Law.

NBN Project Update

The NBN Project Dictionary has now gone live. It provides a list of terms and definitions used in the NBN documents published under the Communications Alliance NBN Project, providing the general public with a handy reference and also the members of NBN Working Groups with a centralised resource to assist in maintaining consistency of terminology across the Communications Alliance NBN Project.

Comments on the Technical working group’s draft NBN Optical Access for public comment are due by Friday 7 May.  The draft defines the generic elements in the passive optical infrastructure, providing an explanation of the vocabulary of the passive optical network, its building blocks, and the technical issues which must be considered and resolved for the NBN.  It is available from the Drafts for Public Comment webpage.  You can submit your comments via the Communications Alliance website.

The NBN Reference Model and Early Stage Deployments working groups plus the NBN Project Steering Committee will meet this week.

Interested members are invited to register for the project team, which will also provide full access to the NBN Wiki.  Non-member organisations who have an interest in the NBN and meet the eligibility requirements for Communications Alliance membership can register as observers directly on the NBN Wiki.
