Nominations now open for the 2010 ACOMMS Awards

Nominations have opened for the Australian communications industry’s premier awards, the ACOMMS, with eight categories reflecting the development, innovation and service focus that underpin the sector.

The ACOMM Awards are presented by Communications Alliance and Communications Day and recognise excellence delivered to consumers, business users and the industry by individuals, service providers, content providers, carriers, technology partners, consultants and third party suppliers. Pipe Networks is the 2010 title sponsor of the ACOMMS with AAPT, DGiT, Inomial, vividwireless, Truman Hoyle and KPMG taking up other sponsorship opportunities.

The ACOMMS will this year be awarded to companies which have excelled in innovation (large and SME categories); professional services; customer service; partnerships for growth; innovation in content delivery and services; and environmental responsibility.  The awards will also recognise a Communications Ambassador, an outstanding individual who has shown strong leadership and made a significant and visible contribution to the Australian communications industry.

Nominations for the awards close on 6 May 2010.  Full details of the awards and criteria are available at www.commsalliance.com.au/the_acomm_awards .

NBN Project Update

The NBN End User Premises working group has completed their work on Release 1 of the End-User Premises Handbook.  This release addresses all the public comments received on the draft Handbook that was issued in December. The working continues to work on the remaining areas of the Handbook including aspects of wireless/satellite access, distribution and installation practices and finally testing and diagnostics. The published Handbook can be found at http://commsalliance.com.au/Documents/national-broadband-network.

The NBN Reference Model, Early Stage Deployments and End User Premises working groups will meet this week.

Interested members are invited to register for the project team, which will also provide full access to the NBN Wiki.  Non-member organisations who have an interest in the NBN and meet the eligibility requirements for Communications Alliance membership can register as observers directly on the NBN Wiki.
