The Disability Council

The Communications Alliance Disability Council was established to develop a framework for ensuring adequate and appropriate disability sector input into Communications Alliance Codes and Standards. It was established to ensure that the implications of proposed Communications Alliance Codes and Standards for people with disabilities were addressed and particular issues identified early in the Code/Standard development process.

The Communications Alliance Disability Council constitutes a positive and proactive vehicle for ongoing consultation with people with disabilities. It is responsible for providing professional advice to Communications Alliance regarding both the implications for consumers with disabilities of proposed Communications Alliance Codes/Standards and the appropriate methods of consultation/involvement in the development of such Codes/Standards. It is designed to work in parallel with, and be complementary to, the normal Communications Alliance Code/Standard development process.

It has also assisted Communications Alliance in meetings it's responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999.
